Responsibility Robin has been spotted!

The character education word for this month is RESPONSIBILITY. Recently, Responsibility Robin was spotted in our school taking selfies with students who were recognized being responsible. Two local reporters were at the school to cover this exciting news. Watch the video by clicking on the link below. The video was played during our school kickoff assembly for responsibility. You will see some familiar faces!

Reading with Flashlights!

We try to dedicate 15-20 a day to silent reading. Time doesn't always cooperate with us, but we try. We understand the importance of rereading text and enjoying books. Sometimes, we change it up and buddy read. Just this week, some flashlights appeared in our classroom. What a fun twist on buddy reading---turn off the classroom lights and close the blinds, get in close with your buddy and read with a flashlight. It was so much fun! We will now make it a weekly habit with-- Flashlight Friday.

The 100th Day of School!

Today, we celebrated 100 days in first grade! During the morning meeting, we chit-chatted about ways that we are 100 days smarter.

We read this book,

made these 100-years-old portraits,

began brainstorming and writing a bucket list of five things to do before we are 100, had a festive 100th day snack and finished our crowns,

tried stacking 100 cups,

and created marshmallow-toothpick structures (50 toothpicks and 50 marshmallows) with our 4th grade buddies!

We will finish up the fun with a few additional activities tomorrow!

That Big, Comfy Chair!

One of our first grade friends recently earned the principal's chair for the day. He is on the left. His big brother was excited to give him a congratulatory squeeze!
